Aha - another Blog! I should do these more often really, but sometimes there is nothing worth saying. Now there is.
As those who frequent the forums will know, I have turned over a new leaf. In fact ive also adapted a whole new outlook on life, which im both proud and scared of.
The main basis of this sudden change is that You Only Live Once. One thing people dont realise in life is that they are slaves to the coin. Life has become all about getting money, you need it to live and all it is is paper or bits of metal. It makes you wonder why our lives are fickle as to be based upon things found in the ground.
This brought on the thought that in life you should really make it the best you can, getting as much happiness you can whilst being sensible at the same time. We all have responsibilities and things that we have to stay stable for, but we can still be happy and maintain these tasks.
College had become a bore to me. Do not read that wrong, I had fun there every week but not because of the work, because of the people I was there with. The friends I have made at college are the best ones in my life and thats what made the decision of leaving college such a painful one. I feel like im letting them down and disappointing them by leaving, and for that im sorry, but I cant just go to college for the social aspect and I hope I dont lose any friends over this.
Inside I have become more of an adult, ive taken responsibility for things I should be doing but have been too lazy before. I help around the house with stuff that needs doing with pleasure whereas before my mum had to nag me several times for me to get anything done. You can hardly say thats not an improvement. I also feel more confident of myself and finally feel I can get something done with my life.
For those worried im throwing my life away by leaving college, I do have a Plan B in case everything goes wrong. Youre never too old to go to Uni, and the fact that I would have been working a while would mean id have less of a loan to pay off.
Im still the loveable old rogue I always was, I just have more determination and purpose to make something of my life and get out of my rut. |

You never to old for uni... where i would agree there is a downside. Once your used to working and have a good income of money you won't want to go to uni... trust me, its ok saying u can do a job + uni but its bloody hard work.
Best to get a degree when your young.
But in IT experience can be worth alot more than a degree. |

What you learn at uni/college is out of date by the time you finish it. So whats the point in a company employing you? none. |

Well obv the point of doing say a degree is to prove that you have the aptitude to learn and that you can when needs be do the work involved with set task. (plus knowing a bit about whatever is helpful to)
I should not think you will lose freinds over this. However.. not much point having mates if you never see them.
Good to know that you have a focus in life now though.
Good luck to ya.
(oh yeah and for the money thing.. it depends what type of person you are, me: ill happily admit that i like possesions, like my PC for instance because i get enjoyment from it, and knowing that i am not some tosser who leaches off of others permanently, ie.. not just in between jobs, is nice as well.)
I think thats a point made. |

People who say degrees are pointless, are the poeple that are not capeable of doing them. And try to justify this by sayign how pointless they are. so answer this, how are you to get this job that gets you the experience, not by doing nothing, this job that gives u experience just isn't in the place you look, plus not doing a degree isn't going to get u experience, a degree will put steps ahead of someone without one, nick seems to know his shit.
No offense chris, but you didn't make it through the first semester i'm not having a dig at you, i'm not saying ur stupid or anything, but someone "capeable" of uni wont leave. Klegg, untill u get a job, u haven't changed much, other than the colourful clothing so good luck with gettign a job. |

!!!!! WARNING !!!!!
YOU MAY FIND THIS OFFENSIVE, BUT IF YOU DO IT WAS NOT INTENDED. THIS IS MY POINT OF VIEW, AS OTHERS HAVE EXPRESSED THIERS THIS IS MINE
By the way doing something becasue it makes you happy isn't a reason to drop everything (its a reworded way of i cant be bothered with this because its hard and boring, and i'd rather do something fun or easy), if i wanted to be completly happy, i'd leave sainsburys, leave uni, spend my time playing guitar, mayeb get in a band, do fuck all get pissed. well i wouldn't be happy with myself doing that because i want to achieve something, but the events i identified would be much more entertaining than going to uni, and working. In life we have to do things we dont like, to ultimately get what we want out of life, its not an easy ride. Your parents don't work hard and long hours in their jobs becasue it makes them happy, they do it to support you and their family. Unless u win the lotery, or love your job (maybe if u were a pornstar, thats an idea for you klegg) either way if you want something to show for your life, you're going to have to work hard, or in some ocasions u may get lucky. |

I understand what youre saying Marc, however im not just leaving college to do things that make me happy. Im leaving to get a job. And I probably wont be very happy working, but in my opinion id be better off working. I'll see how it goes, if i get a few years experience I may think of Uni to further my career, but id prefer getting the experience first rather than finishing a degree and getting a crappy job. |

I never said a degree was pointless all i said was if you left uni with a degree and i had experience i would GET the job over you, why? because i can do the job and not some monkey that went to uni and can read books. However if you had experience + a degree you would get the job over me. Yes i realise a degree is worth it, BUT only later on down the line (30,40 years old) so i can easily do it by then and get my other qualifcations such as CompTIA A+, N+, CCNA, MSCE all in my own and get a degree. With experience i will be more the capiable.
Now firstly before having a dig at me, why not get your fucking facts right? I WAS capeable of doing uni (I would quite happily say more then you, but there again i do own you with my supreme knowledge at computers ok?), i JUST wasnt happy and getting very DEPRESSED and spending nights smacking my walldrobe in stress, my flat mate MAtt heard it all and wondered what it was the next morning. SO BEFORE U SAY I AINT CAPIABLE HOW BOUT U FIND OUT THE FUCKING FACTS MARC?
Also, im more of a natural computer person then you, i know my stuff and have experience where you havn't. You wont even talk about networking outside uni hours, to be very good you need to love ur subject and talk about it alot, you sir dont.
And i aint wasting any time either, im currency studying the CCNA and CompTIA N+ Exams so i wont be missing out, i also get the bonus of enjoying life, even u admit your not enjyoing uni and i all can do is laugh tbh, yea u'll get a degree but enjoy getting it not happy.

People who say degrees are pointless, are the poeple that are not capeable of doing them. And try to justify this by sayign how pointless they are.
Then explain this, what is the difference between a CompTIA A+, N+, MSCE, CCNA and CCNP compared to a degree? a piece of paper.
What they teach at Greenwich is mainly based on Cisco, with added maths and some java programming whoo0d0d00. With the above exams its the same without maths and java. Justify it in an interview and you got the job.
With an MSCE i can earn around £700 per week at the right job, how much more are you going to get with a degree? not much more. Then you got CCNP... etc etc But that doesn't matter because im going to do my degree part time and ENJOY it (hah not like you moron) and get the best of both worlds. |

You WONT get a uber job when you first finish your degree. Because you HAVE no experience and all your degree proves is you can study. However if you manage to pass the CCNA (You will) and the CCNP (Much harder btw) then you got a good chance, BUT getting a good paid first job isnt going to happen. Most ppl graduate and look for the higher paid and never get them, why? no experience with companies.
So your going to be on a shit wage for your first job, get experience then ur 2nd job = high paid cos of experience.
Now get your head out of your fucking arse please, thank you. |

Ok so now a degree is to learn somthing, so justify this:
CompTia A+ Operating Sysyems + Hardware, CompTIA N+, CCNA, MSCA, CCNP & MSCE - If i took all them exams and passed, it proves i can learn and know my stuff to the same level as a degree. (Remember our degree didn't include CCNA & CCNP, that was optional) So if i passed them i'll say it can be considered as the same as a degree or better. Why? because its all NETWORKING! If you can justify it, theres not a problem.
I might be considering doing a degree in Electronics though however. Something different and that way it might be more fun (Righting loads of notes on a subject you know very well is boring, hence Mike not turning up0 - I would rather teach my self the gaps then going over and over on knowledge (Teaching self is alot better).
Ah yes btw FDDI is used in a ring you dip shit that told me it wasn't.
Also Kanti said a switch was only a layer 2 - when infact it can be a layer 3 if it has routing protocols (he didnt tell us that did he?) i knew that but nah the lecutre knows best... bollocks

So, when you get your degree your going to be way ahead of me? No.
I'll have job experience + my exams so i'll be at the same level as you or better. (CompTIA A+, N+, CCNA, CCNP, MSCA, MSCE) How can them exams be worse than a degree?
Remeber uni is teaching mainly Cisco, so as for you being miles ahead is completly bollocks. Again get your head outta ur arse, thank you.
You actually thought i didn't think this through when i left uni? i ALWAYS have a backup plan.

well........ what could follow that.
All I can think is that we all believe that a different route in life will lead us to the desired outcome... so uni = happy life... (if you see my point)
I personally think that you need a balance of both education and experience. I mean it doesnt matter how many qualifications you have under your belt. If someone who can prove they have done the job before.. well they will get it over the uni student.
Its all down to personal choice.. But remember all of you.. life is short so dont spend it doing something you dont enjoy.. I mean you never know whats rounf the corner right... |

Basically I just want everyone to SHUT THE FUCK UP. This is the last thing im saying on this matter. HELLO we're all supposed to be friends and stand by each other, not flip out when one of us wants to do something different with their life. This isnt a fucking regime. So if you cant accept that maybe me and Chris cant do what we want with our lives then maybe you can just fuck off, this isnt directed at anyone in particular im just fed up with all the fucking bullshit thats been going around. Im sorry I cant conform to whatever YOU guys think I should do and whats best for MY life, but we're gonna head our separate ways eventually and i'd prefer it was on good terms. The HNC isnt gonna get me closer to my ideal job of computer game design, if I was going to be a technician then itd be a different story. My best chance is to get some years working experience as well as doing design and graphics practice in my spare time, then go to Uni on a course specificly for Game design. So please people, think about WHAT THE FUCK is going on and decide if its worth losing friends over this shit. |

Oh and to clear up the whole not capeable thing, chris the work you are capeable of, it was more of a giving up becasue its really boring kind of sense, but then how was i meant to know how really depressed you was, and i'm sure if you transfered to the right uni u'd be able to have hardcore time. My missinterpretaion of situations, and my opion has cause a riot, but i have not changed my opionions of people (regarding chris departing uni) and hes as much of an egg as hes always been (meant as a joke) regardless of his career choice. |

There was no point in me lasting a year and trasnfering being in the state i was in, so i've taken the path to take a couple of years break (Well less than that). The HNC is easy and tbh i don't call it much work compared to that of uni, so its a nice break for now.
Yes i will be going back to uni when i feel ready for it,. Then it will be 2 years at Kent uni (with work experience + hnc). But of knows what is around the corner...
So far i've tought my self alot about networking so i'm not missing much (Comp TIA Network + videos ftw) and can study when i want to rather then trying to rush all through it and getting more depressed @ uni.
Paths can be different, long as you end up where you want to be it doesn't matter, and it's your life not anyone elses. |

I do not worry about the impact of this comment because if it aggravates the non friend thing, it would justify my statement, and I personally would not be bothered about annoying someone who has “de-friended” me, which I hope that no one has so no one should be offended.

Anyway i dont think it matters (well it does a bit) what uni you go to when you are in this field of study its going to be boring as hell, we're probly the few computing people that care about having a hardcore time. If you want a hardcore time do an art degree of something, or anything other than computers really (but this does not garentee a job). I'm sure i picked the wrong course but i couldn't think of anything else that was feasible. |

It does matter, but Greenwich and Kent ain't exactly highly rated in the uni chart anyways, our grades wasn't that good to get into anywhere uber like Oxford... and Kent ask for a DDM so i need the HNC to get into Kent.
Was thinking of doing electronics as its different and related to computers (I also had a dream about this...). It's something new so won't get boring but it would be hard...
We'll wait and see.
